“ My mom loves this place! She always ordered lunch special (which is 2 pcs of fried chicken a choice of mashed potato or rice and a coleslaw. And also their special tamarind tea in a pitcher, its to die for! The people who serves us are the same people 20 years or so, so we got the food and service in the bag! Its a touristy, divey approach. Parking space on the side street. (That's usual). If i want to reminisce the days that i had with my mom and also the food... i would certainly go back to this place. Good memories. ”

“ My co-workers and I were on our way to Pampanga for an event when one of them suggested to have lunch at AFC or Angeles Fried Chicken. A quick google of the place suggested it wasn't at all a coincidence that it sounded just like KFC--their logo was red, their specialty fried chicken looked like that of KFC's, and their mascot--much like their servers--was a chicken in a Colonel Sanders costume. We had a good laugh at these. Out of curiosity and wanting to entertain ourselves (aside from the fact that I could live on fried chicken alone), we did visit the place for lunch. In contrast to the bright logo and happy facade, inside, AFC was a dimly lit restaurant with an unmistakably 80s vibe. Brick walls painted maroon, tables with white and red plaid covers, synthetic potted plants, a huge and very alive aquarium in the corner, and since it was almost December, Christmas lights and wreaths were everywhere. We were greeted by a server named Manong Romy (calling him "manong," a salutation prefixed to old men in the Philippines, because he looked like he was in his 60s). I have to talk about Manong Romy first because he was jolly, very talkative, a joker and was very welcoming to us. He seemed like an institution at AFC, which to me was a perfect reflection of the restaurant for the Pampangeños. From the moment we arrived till when we got our bill, Manong Romy was his usual funny yet polite self. Since it was our first time, he recommended AFC's Regular Fried Chicken that comes in 2 pieces (also what they call the Snack meal), 3 pieces (Lunch) 9 pieces (Family), and about five to eight more on the list. With these meals, you can also opt to have their Crispy Fried Chicken or a mix of Regular and Crispy. I ordered the three pieces with a combo of 1 Regular and 2 Crispy with a cup of steamed rice (you also have the option to have a dinner roll instead), gravy and coleslaw. First impression: the food looks like KFC's, everything from the chicken to coleslaw and gravy. I found the Regular chicken underwhelming perhaps because I was expecting it to taste like KFC's, salty and mildly tart skin. This one wasn't bad but it lacked a punch of flavor. The Crispy chicken however did not disappoint: The skin was indeed very crispy and a lot more flavorful compared to the Regular. For both variants, the chicken meat was consistently juicy and cooked perfectly--not at all dry yet cooked all the way through. The gravy didn't taste like KFC's. It was nice in its own way--savory and with just the right amount of saltiness and acidity. I enjoyed the coleslaw too. Compared to KFC's which is always watery and cold coming from the fridge, AFC's tasted more fresh and was perfect with the chicken. (For some reason, Manong Romy was so fond of us, he gave us extra coleslaw when we ordered an additional small portion. :P) Oh, before I forget, their iced tea pitcher cost just P99. There was three of us, and we each had about 3-4 glasses throughout the meal. Is that a good bargain or what? Angeles Fried Chicken is now definitely one of my top-of-mind options whenever in Pampanga. ”
